Blizzard Lays Off Composer Who Produced Iconic World of Warcraft Music

Music is normally an underappreciated aspect of games, sitting in the background to provide ambiance to your play. But in some circumstances, wonderful music can boost it immeasurably. Blizzard has had some iconic themes in its games, from World of Warcraft to Diablo three, StarCraft 2 to Overwatch. Sadly, the composer of significantly of that music is now out of a job.

Russell Brower, Blizzard’s senior audio director and composer, has been laid off simply because of alterations for the inner workings from the sound and music divisions inside the firm. “I’m exceptionally proud in the amazingly talented group I helped build along with the creative output we’ve achieved with each other over these past 12 years,” Brower wrote in a post on Facebook. “As the business has grown, the topography with the Sound group has adjusted accordingly, plus the last couple of years have been no exception. With all the success of a ‘sound de-centralization’ initiative, my present position of all round Sr. Audio Director/Composer is no longer relevant and is being eliminated.”

Brower mentioned that there is a possibility he will continue as a freelance composer with Blizzard on future projects, and much more will be known inside the future. But for now, he’s operating to finish up a solo album that should really be completed soon.

“I would prefer to express my heartfelt thanks to Everybody reading this: all of our Players, Music Lovers, and also the countless new good friends I’ve produced worldwide, for the unbelievable and indelible life experiences I’ve enjoyed whilst at Blizzard,” he continued. “Especially the Players – every of you’ve genuinely enriched our lives by playing our games, meeting us at #BlizzCon and #Nerdtacular, attending our music concerts the world over, enjoying our soundtrack albums and sheet music – the list goes on and on. We’ve got a lot to be proud of and I’m really grateful to each of you and to all my Blizzard colleagues for putting up with me more than the final 12 years and teaching me a lot wow gold.”

should you can’t recall any of Brower’s music, World of Warcraft players will recognize the “Invincible” theme from Wrath of your Lich King. It was given unique mention as becoming “imbued with emotion and portent” when his WoW soundtrack was inducted within the Classic FM Hall of Fame in 2014. Video Games Reside played the track in 2013, with Brower directing the orchestra.
